  • Employment – Information for Potential Providers

Wages and Benefits

Currently (10/07) In-Home Supportive Services Providers in Stanislaus County make $8.84 per hour.

Providers who work 75 or more hours per month are eligible for health insurance. The link above will provide you with further information on insurance benefits.

Working for IHSS

If you already have a friend or family member who has requested that you work for them, you can call In-Home Supportive Services directly at 558-2637 to find out how to be a provider for them. If you do not already know someone on the IHSS program, the Link2Care Registry can refer you to Recipients needing help in their home.

The Registry

The Registry functions similarly to an employment referral service. Providers on the registry fill out an application that states when they are available to work, where they are able to work and what types of tasks they are willing to do. Link2Care then matches the Registry Provider to a Recipient needing those tasks the Provider is willing to do. Once a match is made, the names of the potential Providers are sent to the Recipient, who then contacts the Providers to arrange for an employment interview.

Applying For The Registry

Link2Care holds orientations at our office. The orientation is designed to tell applicants more about the IHSS program, explains the way the registry functions and what the requirements of the position are. You must attend an orientation to be on the registry. Class dates & times can be obtained by calling 558-4881.

At the orientation, you will complete an application and receive paperwork to complete the fingerprinting and background process. All registry Providers must be fingerprinted and pass a background check. Click on the links above to find out more about this process.

Our Registry Specialist interviews potential Providers regarding the Providers skills and abilities to perform authorized In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) tasks. The Provider completes an application at this time, and once they complete the training class, they are put on the registry and we begin referring them out to Recipients.

The Recipient Interview Process

It is important to remember that IHSS Recipients are the employers; they have the ability to hire, fire and determine working hours for Providers.

As a Provider treat the interview as a job interview: show up at the agreed time, be respectful, do not wear excessive perfume and wear appropriate clothing. Remember, as an IHSS Provider you will be working in the Recipient’s home. They will want things done a certain way, just as you would if someone came to your house. If you have a concern about how the Recipient wants you to perform a task, talk to the Recipient; they may have a very good reason. If you have questions about a task the Recipient wants you to perform, contact Link2Care, your Social Services Assistant or Social Worker.
